On February 29th, 2024, the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) 2021/22 cohort orchestrated the "Padura" cultural event, held at the esteemed premises of the National Institute of Social Development (NISD). This vibrant occasion served as a platform to unveil the diverse talents residing within the student body of NISD.


The event boasted an array of captivating performances, encompassing singing, dancing, and dramatic showcases. Through these artistic expressions, attendees were treated to an immersive experience celebrating the rich cultural tapestry and creative prowess of the participants.

 

 

Social Work Day - 2024 

 
     
 

 

On March 19th, 2024, the National Institute of Social Development (NISD) celebrated World Social Work Day with a significant event held on its premises. This year's theme, "Shared Future for Transformative Change" underscored the global importance of collective action in fostering positive societal evolution.

The commemoration included an Open Day Programme, attended by esteemed organizations in the field. Notable participants included the Department of Social Services, the National Secretariat for Elders, the Counselling Division of the Ministry of Women, Child Affairs, and Social Empowerment, the National Secretariat for Persons with Disability, the Social Security Board, the National Institute of Mental Health, SERVE, Family Planning Association, MAS Holdings, SAPSRI, Ceylon Medexplore Pvt. Ltd. and Sri Lanka Association of Professional Social Workers.

During this event, representatives from these organizations shared valuable insights and professional experiences with the student population of NISD, enriching their understanding of Social Work practice and its transformative potential.

 

 

 

 

 
     
 

 

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) 2020/21 cohort successfully organized the annual cricket tournament on February 21st and 22nd, 2024, at the Katunayake Davindra Mendis playground. The event saw active participation from 10 teams in the Men's category, comprising students, academic, and non-academic staff members. Additionally, four teams competed in the Women's category.


Remarkably, both the Men's and Women's championships were secured by the BSW 2022/23 cohort. The runners-up positions were clinched by the BSW 2021/22 batch and the Non-Academic Women's team.


Elevating the occasion, former Sri Lankan Cricketers Anusha Samaranayake and Dhammika Prasad graced the event as chief guests, adding prestige to the tournament.
