The training division, established in 2004, is one of the four integral components of the organizational structure of the National Institute of Social Development (NISD). It functions under the Director of the division. At present, one senior training officer and nine training officers of grade II serve in the division.

Initially the division was engaged in the training of the staff/clients from various institutions sent by the Ministry of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment. As a result of fresh requests for training in development related themes began to flow in, not only from the Ministry of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment but also from other institutions engaged in the developmental fields. Moreover, many of the new requests were for training outside the NISD. They were identified by the NISD as Out-Reach training programs where in the training division agreed to reach out to the client by conducting these training programs in their regional locations.

Objectives of this division are to

• Identify the needs for the training in the different and relevant fields.
• Train human resources to fulfill the needs of the training in the country.  
• Identify the types of training to be given through need assessments.
• Design, develop and implement training programs according to client’s requirements.
• Develop and update curricula to suit the needs of programs.

Diploma programs in Counselling and several sponsored in-house and out-reach training programs are conducted by the training division of NISD. It conducts Long term, Short term and Many Para professional courses. The short term training programs are conducted in many subject areas depending on the requests made by the GO and NGOs.
